The Malta Marine Foundation will be taking over and complete the ‘HANNIBAL PROJECT’ ~ The Foundation would be responsible for the management of this wreck.  

On 31 January 2003 an application PA 00597/03 was submitted to MEPA.  This application was for the placing of the 23 meter long trawler ‘Hannibal’ off Cirkewwa. 

The Wreck is presently laid down in Grand Harbour. The intention is to clean & prepare this trawler to be both environmentally and diver friendly and we hope to place this trawler as a diving attraction in a position just off Cirkewwa where it could be easily reached by divers.  

Cassar Shipyard will carry out the whole task that is the cleaning, preparing the wreck to comply with diver friendly category and (already done) and sinking it upright in the designated site.  The Malta Maritime Authority has found no objection to this project.

Location:- The Malta Marine Foundation intends to place this wreck in: - N 35  59.332 / E 014 19.594   ~  This is a GPS reading and should be close to the new diver entrance point at Cirkewwa (The stairs entrance point) and therefore, can be easily reached by most divers, much easier to reach this wreck from the new entrance point than reaching the ‘ROZI’.  The depth here is 29.5 meters.  The trawler from keel to the top of its masts is 11 meters tall; leaving a clearance of at least 18 meters this if we keep the masts. One of which will surely be removed as it is already weak.  The overall cost of this project is estimated to reach Lm3000 excluding the EIA.
